What is the W-8BEN form and do I have to complete it?

Modified on Thu, 27 Nov at 6:10 PM

The W-8BEN form is a document for the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Submitting it allows for a reduction of the withholding tax rate on dividends from US companies from 30% to 15%. Completing it is highly recommended for people investing in the USA. For clients who declared only Polish tax residence during the account opening process and do not have foreign indicators (e.g., address, phone, citizenship of another country), UniCredit NV/SA Branch in Poland does not require them to complete the W-8BEN – KYC documents (ID card + Polish address + FATCA/CRS self-assessment) and a declaration of residence are sufficient. The client "automatically" falls into the 15% tax group.
